Forming metal in sheet metal fabSheet metal fab is a metal component made by fabricating sheet metal. The process entails cutting shaping and machining the components as per a given fabrication design. The sheet metal fabs are usually used in structural construction, automotive industries, home and office interior construction, architectural works, machine equipment and many other components. Sheet metal fabs are made in fabrication shops usually known as fab shops. The sheet metal undergoes various processes to get to the finished component. A fabrication shop must ensure that it well understands the different metals and their properties, it has the right machinery to fabricate a given component and correct measurement are applied while making the components. This is because it is easy to have a lot of wastes and make loses with a sheet metal fab because of errors. The process of making a sheet metal fab starts with a design drawing of the fabricated metal component. The correct size of sheet metal is then cut through an appropriate cutting process. Once the piece of sheet metal is cut, it is then formed through various process. The processes of forming and shaping metal while fabricating are described below. Rolling metal in sheet metal fab Rolling metal in sheet metal fab involves using a metal rollers to reduce the thickness of metal. A series of rollers is used to compress the sheet metal at high pressure until the metal is flattened to reduce its diameter. Depending on the design, the metal sheet could be flattened at one end by partially using the rollers on the metal. The rollers can be used on various sizes of metal sheets and they can achieve a diverse end product of the fabricated metal. Deep drawing in sheet metal fab Deep drawing in sheet metal fab is the process of compressing sheet metal with a punch until it reduces its thickness. The punch has automated pressure amounts that exerts pressure to result in the desired size. The punch works in such a way as to reduce the thickness of the metal sheet while increasing its diameter. Turning in sheet metal fab Turning is used to create cylindrical shapes while creating a sheet metal fab. The sheet metal is rotated at a fast speed and pressed against a mandrel with a cutting edge. The edge is rotated in the opposite direction slowly to create the cylindrical shape on the piece of metal. Turning can be done in such a way as to create different shapes such as cones. Press braking in sheet metal fab Press braking in sheet metal fab involves compressing a sheet metal against a press to create a v-shaped groove on the piece of metal. The processes is used to groove the sheet metal in different shapes depending on the design. The design of the press determines the groove in the sheet metal fab. |
